On Sept 15, 2008, the District Board modified its rules to keep up with the changing circumstances in Brewster County. One important rule change is that after several years of encouraging voluntary compliance for non-exempt operating wells, the District will require all such wells to be registered by June 1, 2009. These are defined as such wells equipped to pump over 25,000 gallons of water per day.

NEWS: The Far West Texas Water Planning Group has recommended to the Texas Water Development Board that it include acquisition of data for the Marathon Aquifer in its latest scope of work.  Such data would be in the form of aquifer pumping tests at up to eight locations.  It is anticipated that the work will take place within the next 18 months.
